Well guys, i sold my 1998 ford ranger and purchased a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with 420A engine. Well my first impressions were good and the car runs great. I knew when i purchased it, that the front end needed some help. When i got it home i noticed it needed new wheels cause one was busted and im very surprised it was holding air. So since i had a set of 1999 mustang GT wheels, i decided to see if they would fit. Sure enough they work perfect and helped with the steering a little. well i was driving it home last night and the alternator went out. Now since i already have to change the alternator and get it aligned up i will check the front end to make sure it doesn't need anything else... BOY was i wrong. it will need a lot of parts which i have already ordered
Hey honey. I ordered most of my parts this morning and it came out very well. Below is a FULL LIST of parts i have ordered along with prices and retail prices to show savings. Along with that is the links to the items.

How are the tie-rod ends and ball joints? Some look a bit suspect. Also, is that torn boot on the steering rack or the axle?

I always heard that once the boot goes, the universal joint is toast. I hope you don't have to replace that. That's some big bucks.

Agreed. That boot looks to be on the rack to me.

I would say 95% of the rubber is gone on all the joints and if its not gone its dry rotted. also most of the joints have alot of play in them and mostly wore out.

Not really. It's about $125 - $175 for an axle.

Nice, be sure to get a steering rack and remember it's going to need a good alignment. I'd take it to a shop with a good alignment machine.

I checked the rack and its fine with no leaking. just the tie rod boots are ripped but the kit i ordered comes with new tie rods and ends

Ok today when i got home, some parts arrived. My new headlights and a IAC valve, so i go to install the headlights and once i was done i wanted to see them but remebered my alternator had die (or so i thought). So i pull my wifes, moms car in front of mine and hook the jumper cables to it and let it charge for around 30 minutes. Well i come back to find it didnt charge at all! so since the battery looked old, i went to autozone and bought a new one. i came home and installed it and BAM she fired up. well after looking at my headlights i got the idea to test the alternator so i cranked the vehicle and took the positive off the battery and it kept running!!!! so now i have a new alternator on the way that i really didnt need :(

Just tested the old alternator after installing my cdplayer and it was putting out alittle over 14V which from what i read is good. i will leave it on there and keep the new one as a back up

*UPDATE!* Ok last night i finished the suspension and was cleaning up, well i found two rubber pieces that were laying in the old parts pile and i was puzzled cause i knew these go some where, well i went to lower the car down and the shock ends stuck out of the finders under the hood!! it was the rubber piece that goes on end of the SHOCK!!! so today after being mad at my self for my costly mistake, i took the shocks back out and put on the missing rubber pieces and re assembled the car. here is a picture of it now, its oily and dirty but after i have it aligned at 2PM Est time i will go quick wash it.

I agree. They not only look like ass, but sound like it too. Not to mention, it's absolutely pointless to replace only the muffler. You won't see any significant power gains at all. Either put a real exhaust on there with an increased diameter and flow, or leave it stock. That fart can was a waste of $25 and screams poser (if you can hear it over it making the sound of angry bees).

I will install the "fart cannon" for the time being BUT when i do rebuild the engine and go turbo later on i will change exhaust with a high flow cat back system. does that sound nice?
ALSO
Alittle update. I had it aligned which was a not great. they aligned the toe but then came out and told me that they couldnt align the camber cause it doesnt have the hardware so then i had to go order these parts then have it RE aligned :( they even still charged me 72$ for just the toe. I even told them when i walked out that i would never use there shop again. My camber kit comes in monday and i will call around for a new alignment place that done but rape me without vasoline! also i was driving it yesterday and the power steering pump went out. this is great!

The only reason im replacing anything on the exhaust is cause some idoit that owned the car before attempted to cut off the muffler but when he failed he then got the bright idea to bore holes in it to get some kind of sound which sounds like whistling ass

Well, I can understand why you are replacing just the muffler in that instance, but why not just a regular muffler?
And what that shop did is bullshit. They should've asked you before continuing with the work, as soon as they knew they couldn't make all the necessary adjustments. Not very professional of them.
But that brings up another question. Why couldn't they adjust the camber? The means to do so are there from the factory. The camber kits you buy for the car just give a larger range of adjustment than the couple degrees you can get from factory setup. It's mostly for track set ups, or over lowered cars.
As for power steering, convert to a manual rack. :D

They are preset from factory and when they wear out some, the camber will be off and the only way to correct it is to buy a adjustable camber kit. so that kit should be here today or tomorrow and i will install it, then i will find a different alignment place LOL. why not buy a regular muffler? cause i found this one cheap and i wanted some type of sound from it. I will be buying a engine out of the scrap yard soon to build and once its finished i will be installing turbo boost. but thats later on in the future, for now it will have alittle sound

i just picked up one of these TD05 12B turbos with no shaft play real cheap! i know its not a bad ass turbo or anything but would it be ideal for running a small 5-8PSI on my 420A?
Any thoughts on this?

Look much better without the wing.
And yeah, that turbo will be fine for low boost. It will likely max out around 250hp, but only if you maximize the combo with a good flowing manifold and exhaust. Don't forget intercooling of some sort.

UPDATE! got the turbo in today. It looks very well for coming off an 1989 model car. I know there is some things missing so if you see anything point it out. there is ZERO shaft play in and out nor side to side.
OK couple questions i have. I did some research and found that this is water cooled and oil cooled but do i have to do both or just run the oil lines like i would other turbos?
It is a small turbo but it should do what i need it to do

HMmm i was just told on the DSM forums that its normal for those to be loose when the hot side is off. I am going to clamp down the compressor to the hot side and see if it clamps it down as well.

Yeah, you should try changing the timing belt on one of those (and especially the turbo models). Almost as bad as working on a Z32, but not quite.

Yea you practically have to take the engine out on one side. It needs alot of work but gets me to work which is a 80 miles round trip daily so i cannot complain
