You might know that I am a YouTube whore...so of course the first movie off my new cam will be broadcast to the masses.
What should the subject matter be? A How To Tut? Shooting mah guns? Rahding mah Murdersickle? A walk in the woods? Mah Kitteh?
What do you think?

I don't care about that. I just like scenery. Anyway, it's not too hard to get a general idea from someone's ip address. With a little social engineering you can probably get a physical service address.

Trespassers will be violated.
I shot a silly vid in slow motion and then I decided to tear down the tree house so I took a couple of that. It's a good camera in full daylight. under artificial it looks a little dodgy.

I always wanted a bumper sticker that said "tow-ers will be violated".
I just realized there is no word for towers - as in people who tow and saying towers will be violated doesn't make any sense. Oh well.

Dammit it's a pretty day. I shot some video of tearing down the treehouse and some of me swinging in the hammock mumbling. I need a tripod.

Wow. That was my first trip to an entirely deciduous forest. Bizzare.

What model is the camera? I'll probably be looking for a good one shortly and I like the zoom on that one.
Also, does it have a nighttime mode? If so, you should do some creepy night filming in those woods o.O

Canon SD4500 IS
Shot some night footage and it came out okay. Streetlights helped. Not sure if the full moon would be enough.
Captured a few seconds of a Hawk too. That was nice. I need a TRIPOD.

I need a co-conspirator to help me make movies. I'm a little nervous about damaging the cam or getting it dirty or whatever.
Another glorious day. I like the idea of capturing slo mo vids of stuff getting destroyed. I'll try an do that.

I was really impressed to see that that video came from a $300 point-and-shoot. Is it hard to keep steady while moving/walking? Also, do you think it would be suitable for recording a graduation in a large gym filled with about 1500 people?

It seems to stabilize the image under most circumstances without any issue. It is better than the previous camera in that regard...which would sometimes freak out and make the image lurch about for no reason.
The battery life is short with this camera. You would probably want a spare.
And (at least at maximum settings) you would need a large SD card...as in 32GB. 1080p eats up a huge amount of space. 59 seconds of 1080p equals 265MB of disk space. At 720p 1 minute of video with the lowest compression set on "fine" grabs 184MB of space. Which means less than 10 minutes total for 720p on my 2GB SD :(
You can adjust the compression level higher (L, M1, M2, S) and you can set "Fine" to "Normal" and probably save some space...but a large card a spare battery would be required to capture any long event.
I should add that you need to research file type the camera produces. My Sony DSC-T90 produced Mpeg4 which must have a better compression value than the .MOV files produced by the new Canon. However the Canon is stereo, the Sony was mono, the Canon was more settings for compression, so I will have to experiment more. The new Sony DSC-HXV produces 1080p and 720P HD in a format called ACHVD which I know nothing about. Of course these do not play on Windows Media Player...but Real Player looks way better than QT which I absolutely hate. Both suck.

don't use compressed air. it will blow dirt into the lens assembly and then the camera is ruined - i know. Use zeiss lens cloth packets. Used to have them at Sams club.

Took some night movies riding around in the woods with the kids. This camera rocks. Perfectly clear. Focuses well. Even captured lunar details in 40X zoom hand held. All in "Auto" just to see how it handles the low light.
Uploading some video clips I took last night up in Floyd, VA of people making music in the street.

It depends on the camera and how much force you use. If the assembly is fairly well sealed, then I guess that's ok, but you don't really know that until it's too late. I would still use a lens cloth or a fine brush for particulates.
My Canon 70-300mm lens kit came with one and I would be comfortable using it on that, but not on the type of cameras that have the telescoping lens barrel.
That's why I got the Sony DSC-T900. Everything is internal so there is no danger of contamination.

Nice trees CD - we don't have anything like it where I live. Most of our trees have leaves all year round. I like hearing birds, they are cool.

Mostly deciduous with a few conifers scattered about. Mix of Oak, Maple, Poplar, Locust and some flowering bushes. Also nasty brambles, poison Ivy and Sumac and Oak. Don't wipe yer ass with just any leaf...
