I know it's rough talking about a movie without revealing too much so maybe this thread will just die on the vine.

My last movie was Machete. Fantastic B-movie, if you can all anything with Robert de Niro a B-movie. I was surprised to see Don Johnson. I thought he was dead LOL.

Now watching formula 51 since it happens to be on one of the movie channels and there was a question about it in the 'guess the movie' thread. Love Samuel L.

Just saw the Hangover Part II last night. Same movie as the first one just different city. lol Loved Zack Galifianakis's character. Awesome movie to see and just laugh at all the stupid shit. Pretty entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hide and Seek (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382077/). Really great psychological thriller. I watched it a second time and noticed some great foreshadowing as well. I have no idea why it only has a 5.6 on IMDB. The "metascore" is even worse, 35/100.

That was a good flick. I never saw it coming. Last movie I watched was Resident Evil: Extinction. Complete piece of crap. None of the Resident Evil movies are that great, but this one is by far the worst.

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 yesterday. Rather overloaded action sequences with minimal plot but the movie wasn't as bad as the critics made it out to be. Only has like 35% on Rotten Tomatoes I think. Seen much worse than this.

I know I'm in the minority, but I thought the first one was shit too. I got 2/3's of the way through and stopped watching. The only reason I made it that far was because people were saying how great it was. I'm still shaking my head over that one.

I can see where you are coming from. It's a film for frat boys. Basically if you forget all maturity for an hour and a bit then you'll find it funny. But there's losing your maturity, then there's being spoon fed shit and being told to laugh. The second one is the latter.

The Hangover was actually one of the few of its type that I actually enjoyed. That kind of juvenile humor is usually a big turnoff for me but that film somehow played it all well enough without it being cheesy and dirty without being funny. I still hate films like Grandmas Boy and 40 Year Old Virgin mind you but this was a rare find in a sea of crap

Spent most of the day watching Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time (I have to watch in 10-15 minute intervals). It wasn't bad. I liked some of the special effects and acrobatics. A little predictable, but I would recommend it if you like the action/adventure/fantasy genres.

I'll have to download that. Ummm . . . I mean, check it out. 7.2 on IMDB and only 81 min. Sounds perfect for me.

I'm watching MacGruber. I assume this is based on the MacGuyver series, which I've never seen so I'm afraid I'm missing a lot of the jokes.

This isn't really a spoiler I don't think, but there is one scene where he has to create a distraction and he's naked, clucking like a chicken with a piece of celery up his ass. He later eats the celery. That was pretty funny.

Don't think I can make it all the way through MacGruber.

Samouraïs was cheesy but good. It had a lot of the same plot elements as anime, like the goofy side kick who ends up saving the day due to pure luck. There are also some decent fight scenes and sword play.

Just finished G-Force - the one about a team of rodents who save the world. I thought is was going to be just silly kids' stuff, but I really enjoyed it. When they're not doing retreads of their original movies, Disney can produce some decent entertainment.

I too just got back from seeing First Class. For me it was the best since X2, which I enjoyed a heck of a lot at the age of 10. They could have done a lot more with the teenage mutant team and some of the other non-starring roles, but overall it was pretty good.

Best part was Wolverine telling X and Magneto to go fuck theirselves (r)

It did defy my belief that the events would ever have unfolded as they did and it had a very convenient ending. A definate one time watch for me.

I agree the new "X" members could have gotten more screen time but there was so much story to tell that not everyone really had their characters dished out to the extent that they could have. Pity but I guess we can't have a 3 hr long movie :p

That scene was rather kickass :D

My only real complaint of the film was the sudden throwing together of Xavier and Mystique. For a pair with that kind of close personal history, the fact that the other X-Men films make no mention that they damn grew up together makes me wonder if the director of this new film was simply desperate for a reason to have a hot naked blue girl in the film for any reason at all, heh.

Makes a bit of a plot hole though for what comes later though...

I agree. No real connection was ever made between Xavier and Raven in any of the other films. I guess they just needed to explain how she became so attached to Erik.

Wow, it really is the summer of sequels, although this sounds like a retread - which isn't necessarily bad. They can be better than the originals, especially if any fx are involved. Not really a fan of the horror genre but I know Nightmare is a classic. You have to have some balls to remake a classic.

It actually came out last year. Netflixed it. IMO they made a huge mistake in digitally altering Jackie's voice. The acting was just wooden, but that's not saying that the original had Oscar talent.

I thought that the Green Hornet was going to be a normal, comic book based, action hero movie. I almost stopped watching it half way through because Seth Rogen's character was really getting on my nerves. Yes I know it was deliberately over the top, but even so . . .

What you do have to watch in order to feel guilty for watching it is Nekromantik, a German film about a necrophilic couple stealing a corpse and having fun with it. The term "Got wood" gets a whole new meaning in this flick. And guess why its banned mostly everywhere? Because it has a scene where a butcher kills a bunny.

Actually that scene wasn't all that disturbing. You know... since its a ritual and its explained. Either rapekill that girl or get killed yourself. The last rape scene tho got to me. Stripped, raped, and then beheaded. I mean wow. And I liked that girl, she was kinda hot. ...there's no way I can't say that in a non-disturbing way innit.

You know, reading the wiki page, the whole movie was shot under bad premises. Most of the actors didn't want to do the stuff they had to. Makes the movie all the more creepy. Especially since the "burning hut" scene wasn't staged.

I found 120 Days of Sodom (1080p bluray!), but looking at the screens and having read on wiki and imdb, I have a strong feeling my GF will not like me watching it lol. Watching it with her wouldn't be much of an option either since I'm pretty sure she wouldn't want to watch it . . .

However, I'm quite interested in the novel it's based on (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_120_Days_of_Sodom) if there is an English translation.

edit: Yeah, got an English translation of the novel. Downloading the film as well as Nekromantik and all 8 parts of the Guinea Pig series. Hopefully I can watch all of them lol

I just saw this last night. I thought it was alright. Pretty predictable but not too shabby. Thor was better though.

Screaming Beaver

Well, the film being predictable wasn't really that surprising, wasn't expecting twists and turns in the film. I did like the fact that they didn't insult our intelligence by trying to make us believe that the female lead wouldn't recognize who Green Lantern really was (the whole concept of the secret identity being maintained has always been stupid to me) so that was definately a plus.

Have to disagree with you on Thor though, that film was pretty awful. The fight scenes were decent but the whole sequence on Earth was pointless to me and I just couldn't bring myself to really care about any of the characters. Why the film has the fans it does puzzles me since it doesn't seem to be anywhere as good as past movies based on superheroes. Hell, I think Spiderman 3 was better and that's really saying something.

I've been looking forward to the reboot but at the end of the 5 part mini-series, they had ditched captain jack. They wanted to move it into a bbc prime time slot and having an openly bisexual character wasn't going to cut it apparently. It makes sense for them to have a complete change of venue but going to the US is a little odd since I think of torchwood as being exclusively british. So we'll have to see what's up with that.

Fourth series premiers on july 8th - I guess on starz.

Red Faction: Origins

I was impressed. They put a lot more effort into it than I expected. I'd say it's probably the best movie I've ever seen based on a game. If you haven't played the games though, it is likely to be confusing how virtually all the main actors are sons/daughters of major characters in Red Faction: Guerilla though. Hell, even I forgot who most of their parents were (been a long time since I beat the game).

Pay attention to the music. It's done by Wendy Carlos and his Moog synthesizer IIRC. I saw it a long time ago and it always struck me as a bad Fellini rip-off. I love Stanley Kubrick as a general rule but I never understood why that movie was so well regarded.

The fiction aspect of sci-fi means that it doesn't have to follow our system of science. The most important part is to make the watcher feel it's plausible. It doesn't actually have to hold up to real science. But, then again, this one is centered around Earth, so I suppose the point is moot.

I was only responding to the comment that it was believable and I was only questioning the believability from a scientist's point of view. They go to movies too you know.

When stated that narrowly, the criteria is, by definition, scientific believability. If anyone is interested in that narrow aspect of it, they should read the article. If they're not, then they shouldn't. That's pretty much all we're talking about here.

Wow, uhhh, yeah . . . no . . .

Yeah its pretty heavy stuff. And uhm, that IMDB description didn't describe everything thats going on. Yeah imagine that, pedophilia and necrophilia are actually harmless descriptions.

But if you take the movie as what it is, a movie, its a pretty decent one. The plot isn't just plastered together, the actings pretty damn impressive, it has a twist ending you'd never expect...

but its the embodiment of graphic stuff that no eyes should ever see.
And because of that its actually quite brilliant.

Mine, too.

Count me out, though, as far as watching a new Conan. Screw that shit. I didn't even know they were making one, which is a benefit of not watching TV that has commercials. I did check it out on IMDB, and the new Conan looks like he would suck off big snakes, not chop them with a sword. The only way I would even consider watching it is if it were closer to Robert Howard's books. I'm sure it's much better than Conan the Destroyer. I'm not loyal to Arnold, it just seems no one makes a new movie, anymore, just redoes an old one.

Ive never read the book myself but I'm guessing it's more like the book as it's nothing like the original movie but it is...Jason Momoa is 10x the actor and 10x more physical than Arnold ever was in any movie.

It's better than the original just 20 minutes into the 1:52 length of it....I seriously consider this film to be in my top 50 movies of all time and I will be buying the BR....

I give it a 9/10 and I'm picky. Specially when it's a remake from one of my Favorite action heroes.
