Stupid Verify Your Age menu's

Whats the point, really? If I need to verify my age to watch a video I just click the categories and flick the scroll wheels down. No one really puts their actual age there any ways. And those that are underage just put some BS in there.

I don't take the time to fill it out proper either. Usually I take whatever the mouse lands on for month and date then make sure to pick a year < 1980. They'll never reject a 39+ year old. ;)


The point? I think it is just there to dodge a legal bullet. For instance, if Timmy, who is 10 looks at a video for Leisure Suit Larry: Magnum Cum Laude Uncensored (rated Ao), they can say that Timmy could only see the video because he lied about his age. At which point, the lawsuit turns from the video publisher's fault to Timmy lying. The case would drop out of court almost immediately.

Is it effective at actually stopping kids from viewing stuff that isn't appropriate for them? No. Is it effective at winning/preventing lawsuits? Yes.
