View Full Version : Consider the tv shows you watch. Which do you watch mainly out of habit?

Because of my OCD, if I program the DVR to record a show, I feel obliged to watch it. Not 'obliged' really, but I feel like I'm missing something if I don't. Ofc I don't feel the same way about the billions of hours of other programming I don't record. I'm wondering if this is just me or if anyone else knows what I'm talking about.
The show 'House' fell into this category and finally for season 7 I killed it. I don't feel like I missed anything. Recently I ditched something else and now I can't even remember what it was. Oh, right. Royal Pains on USA Network. I don't know if it was the introduction of the fonz (gag, puke) as a new character or if it was the shortness of breath from the high smug level.

Only show that I watch religiously is Supernatural. Anything else is usually just depending on if I have anything better to do.

I don't really watch anything out of habit. I watch what I want to watch. Currently I watch:
Weeds
MasterChef
Eureka!
Warehouse 13 (which is boring me this season for some reason)
Top Gear
The Car Show
Torchwood
That's it. If I'm bored, I'll generally find an episode of Pawn Stars or some other History channel/TLC channel show on the internet.

I haven't watched TLC in years. They moved all the manly shows to Discovery and moved all the girly shows to TLC. I remember when they had all the good shows on TLC and the bad ones on Discovery. You know, Junkyard Wars, Monster House, and Monster Garage. All those shows were either canceled or moved to the Science Channel.
There's only six channels I watch:
-CNN (DVR Reliable Sources, live to catch some news between switching recordings)
-Local NBC (DVR Meet the Press, live morning and nightly news)
-Local Fox (DVR Animation Domination)
-Discovery (DVR One Man Army, Mythbusters, Howe & Howe Tech)
-History (DVR Top Gear, Ice Road Truckers, Top Shot, Sons of Guns, Pawn Stars, Modern Marvels)
-Comedy Central (DVR Futurama)
I think that's it. Only Reliable Sources and Meet the Press happen every week. Often I'll delete them without watching them unless something is happening or has happened that interests me.

I watched every episode of top gear uk on netflix. Every. Episode. Now I hate the U.S. version because it's the same scenarios with the personality sucked out of it.

Game of thrones is still interesting to me but I hear you on Alphas and falling sky. I don't really like the cast of Alphas and bailed on that after 3 or 4 episodes. FS has potential but they focus so much on the dramatic and interpersonal aspects that it doesn't really feel like sci-fi any more.
on a side note, I badmouthed terra nova in another thread after getting halfway through. I think it might actually be interesting but out of 2 hours I didn't really feel like it met my minimum daily sci-fi requirement. I think I'm still going to FF through most of the episodes.

I got too attached to Lord Stark (Sean Bean). I can't imagine the show without him. I haven't read the books so I don't know how good the show will get.
I like alien invasion scenarios so Falling Skies is a guilty pleasure. I think Spielberg's other show Terra Nova has more potential.
I am looking forward to Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome in 2012.

I didn't even know about this. I really need to subscribe to some sort of email newsletter so I know what's coming down the pike. I have the attention span of a tree squirrel most of the time and just don't have the patience to try to dig things like this up. If you remember, maybe you could post something here when it's about to premier.
Any ideas for staying informed?

GAH spoiler! I usually don't start watching a show till it has 2 - 3 seasons out there so I have some material to watch. I haven't started this yet, but now I will know he won't be a main character for numerous seasons, and expect him to possibly die.

somebody told me the author of the books has a reputation for killing characters. 2 people told me Lord Stark was going to die before season 1 even aired and shortly after the pilot Sean Bean signed on with some Sitcom.

The books are amazing and there are much more compelling characters than Eddard Stark. He was pivotal to A Game of Thrones. Season 2 is going to be epic in every way. You really should read the books.
As far as TV goes...
Sons of Guns
Man vs. Wild
Mythbusters
Sons of Anarchy
Game of Thrones
Wilfred

Doesn't mean you need to tell everyone else, spoiler tags are here for a reason, killing characters I would always put in those as people are always looking for new shows to watch and thats part of the excitement. Not everyone has read the books for movie/tv adaptations they are going to watch, or even heard much about the shows.
