It just appeared today. What do you think of it? Would it fan flame wars?

Should it be added to TPU?

EDIT

I see the No Thanks button idea on TPU is quite popular. I certainly like it, so if you like this new button, vote in my poll and click it against this post!

I love it. I have not yet used it, but it's nice to know it's there. I would definitely get a lot more use out of it on TPU.

I see you've thanked me and no thanked me DrPepper. Are you trying to confuse me my friend? Remember, I only have a very small brain of limited means. ;)

What I need is for DrPepper to post here and revenge will be mine, muhahahaha!!! :)

I also like the way you're nothanked for this useful post. Surely it should be changed to useless post? ;)

I think calling it a Demerit button would have been better. Got more of a sting to it, don't you think?

Damn_Smooth
08-15-2011, 11:25 PM
That would work too. It should have the slap to the forehead emoticon attached to it.

I'd like to change my vote to "Yes" because it is kind of an oxymoron for those of us without a "Thanks" button. When you click it on us, you're literally acknolwedgying we have no "Thanks" button. I love the irony in that. XD

I don't really see the purpose of the no thanks button, and I do not think it should be added to TPU where the atmosphere is not as light as it is on here.

You want gn to be identical to other forums then?

If someone actually asked for this, then I have to give you credit for implementing it. However if so, it seems that person has moved on or doesn't want to admit having asked for it.

I would prefer to see whatever effort was required being put toward suggestions people actually do want, such as a dark theme. I see that there is an option for this in the options section of our CP, but clearly it needs a lot of work since even basic icons like 'go to first/last post' aren't even showing up.

I actually posted that I was working on both features. They're not done.

Also, don't try to change the topic to CP.

Maybe change "Useful post" to "piece of crap" or "useless post" or "abomination" or "blasphemy".

Lots of forums/sites/etc. have a thumbs-up/thumbs-down system. This is pretty much the same idea.

I think at least a few people have asked for something similar.

Every other forum I visit does. Some has a "rep" system, either positive or negative reputation, another has "feedback", still either positive or negative.

Then there's a "points" system. Each post, depending on the section, has a base points value. Then you can use the +/- buttons for each post to increase/decrease its value. That's why there can be people with positive points, negative points, or zero.

Yup. I'm not sure I'm in favor of the points system here, but I do like being able to dislike a post.

So I see that most people are in favour of No Thanks. I'm not surprised really, as it adds byte, really changes the forum dynamic and yanks people out of their comfort zone - sorts the men from the boys. :D

Also, I'm not surprised that some of our intrepid mods aren't in favour of it, as they're afraid they might have to do some real moderating on TPU. ;)

BTW, I was the culprit that asked for this months ago, hehe.

Not really a forum, but every comment on every video has a thumbs up or thumbs down button. It's the exact same concept.

Well, of course there's a chance. There's also a chance that we will be turning TPU into a tea, pipe and urinal exclusive website as well. Truth be told I don't make these decisions.

I think it makes more sense in GN than in TPU. But I already replied in TPU, so I'm not going to repeat myself.

Oh what the Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V:

And the problem is the argument behind that reason (example: fanboys).
I see it as a harmless idea and an entertaining feature, but I also think it needs more "lab-testing" over at GN, before it can be introduced to TPU.
So I'm voting "Not sure".

I think it needs to be labeled more clearly. Might I suggest STFUGTFOBBQ. That's much more straight forward.

On the other hand, I do like being able to use the no thanks button to acknowledge posts that I like where there is no 'thanks' button. It's like a sarcastic 'no thanks', which, since it amounts to a double negative, really amounts to 'thanks'. I think it works in much the same way as a double positive implying a negative.

Yeah, right. :D

I suggest a "looks like a typical d.d.d. post" label, considering that he's "above the rest" already in terms of being disliked. I mean, 71 times? And Ford is WAY behind (being disliked 16 times). Qubit is also tied with Ford at 16.

"The Following User Says No Thank You to WhiteLotus For What Looks Like a Typical d.d.d. Post"

While the No thanks button would be "wtf d.d.d.???"

And then "Dislikes" would be "d.d.d.'s" and "Disliked" would be "d.d.d.'d"
