A Few Computer Questions

Ok i know, TPU, right? But its really just a few questions so I thought I'd ask here. Why make a nub thread like this there? I just need a few answers

I've never built a computer from the ground up. Thats the reason I signed up at TPU. I have done everything but drop the processor in. I have swapped parts for people time and again. But I haven't set up Bios, installed Windows, or booted up for the first time. I've worked with complete machines with previously installed OS's. I have torn computers down and put them back up. But not ground up stuff.

So my questions are:

1) Can i drop a processor in a mobo with heatsink and RAM and boot it up? IOW, how much do i need to install to know i have a working computer? What is the minimum required before i proceed with the vid card, sound card, HD, etc?

2) How does an AMD 5200+ Brisbane compare with the 5600+ Windsor? I've seen benches i think i can live with, but your opinions count more to me tbh.
It will be playing games. All kinds

3) This is the mobo. It will have an 8800GT on it and possibly more. 9800GTX+ most likely

Yeah I know. You don't have to tell me. CHEAP! But that is the mobo I have. Have had it for a year. So it has to get used somehow

Anyway this is just a little project I'm putting together with spare parts and a few from my computer. First real build attempt. If I need REAL help I'll go to the other forum. But I think if you answer these questions for me I'll be ok

- To put a CPU in, you must take the old HSF off, and the CPU out. When you put the new CPU in, MAKE SURE YOU PUT THERMAL GREASE ON!!! and then put your HSF back on. All you need for a working computer before vid, sound, HDD, etc is: Motherboard, RAM, Processor w/ heatsink, and a power supply.

- The Brisbane will overclock better because it's 65nm, but only has 1MB of L2 cache. It will also consume less power. The Windsor won't overclock as well because it's a 90nm CPU, but has 2MB of L2 cache. They'll consume more power.

First off, get yourself a better motherboard because one should NOT BUY ECS under any circumstance. They are worse than Intel and ABIT motherboards (That's BAD).

The 5600+ Windsor will be faster because it has 2x1MB L2 Cache, and nearly the same overclocking headroom as a Brisbane (depending on the board), but the Windsor will consume more power than the Brisbane. 89 Watt TDP vs. 65 watt TDP on the Brisbane
