View Full Version : Should we have news posting on GN?

We have news posting over at TPU, which stimulates the forum massively, so should we have that here? This being GN, the news would be about anything you like, not just tech and wouldn't have to be objectively written. You could put in as much commentary and opinion as you wanted - anything to get the discussion flowing!

I propose having up to 10 news writers for this task, with the actual number being at the discretion of GN staff, of course. Also, maybe the news staff could rotate, perhaps monthly, to vary the style of news that's posted and to give everyone a shot at it?

Having done news for TPU for almost two months now, I can tell you that it becomes an addictive hobby and is very satisfying. :)

EDIT: There seems to be some confusion over what I'm proposing. I'm talking about replacing the home page for GN with a TPU style one that contains news stories. These would not just be copy-pasted from sites, but be rewritten in the news writers own words, along with commentary and opinion. Like TPU, there would be a link at the top of the page to enter the forum, or one could click the discussion link at the bottom of the article.

As of now, we just link to other news sites' articles.

And nothing is stopping any of us from adding our comments/editorials, which many of us do. The only difference I see is that somebody specific would be dedicated some of their time to it and be designated as a news-poster.

I don't see much difference for everybody else though.

No.

GN is not meant to be a content site. It's just a backroom for TPU community to chill out (so TPU stays clean). You don't see any ads here, plus the traffic of GN doesn't even amount to 1% of TPU's.

So no, there shouldn't be any content here. Members are free to use the "From the News" section for all the random stuff they find online.

GN is not meant to be a content site. It's just a backroom for TPU community to chill out (so TPU stays clean). You don't see any ads here, plus the traffic of GN doesn't even amount to 1% of TPU's.

And most of the traffic of GN is actually for just two threads as well. LOL

i have admin duties now so i don't have time to write much at all
(although i did beat SK-1 to the 500th thread started :p :D)

we already make our own headlines up for news which can be comical , but as for people writing their own stuff , i can't see it happening much tbh
