Sooo, I just found out that a friend of my father's is going to give me a good deal on bodywork and paint, as well as a nice slant 6, so it turns out that my 1975 plymouth duster (atm with a blown engine) will live again! Its been sitting for about 3 years now waiting for money, so im totally stoked. I know a slant six is nothing to get wet about, but thats what it had in it before, and I figure I can live with it till I can go all the way with my plans and put a late model 5.9 in it (yes its possible, i saw it in mopar muscle magazine, lol) Gonna be sassy grass green (or limelight if you wanna be technical) with a black hood and spoiler, and black vinyl top. I dont have pics of it atm, but I will def when its done.

Anyone else own / want to own some old school american iron?

Very cool, always loved muscle cars. If I ever pick one up will be a 69/70 Vette. Quiet a few others I would like to have, but I'm not Jay Leno.

Not a vette man myself, but my best friend in high school had a 70 stingray, white with pearl pink ghost flames. It was a beast, but damn, if you floored it you could literally watch the fuel gauge go down. He eventually traded it for a jacked up custom jeep. His dad had a 65 mustang, which he sold to a 16 year old kid last year... the kid ended up flipping it end over end after hitting a culvert in the ditch, and ripped his own nose off on the steering wheel...

lol ok dont know what made me post that, but hey, old cars are about memories right?

Yeah the old v8's can drink gas. If I ever go that route it would be more like old meets new, with some sort of LSx motor under the hood and a t-56 or that new 6 speed that Chevy uses. That way amazing freeway mpg in 6th gear.

I like Vette's just because they are ab it more off the norm. Mustangs, Camaros, Trans Ams, Chargers, all the general (use to be cheaper) muscle cars are what most people want to build, and are what most of the magazine/car show builds are of.

Anyone else own / want to own some old school american iron?Yeah, a 5.9 is just a 360. Should fit fine. Might be pricey tho. If you want a cheaper, and easy to find swap, just go with a 318. Plenty of engine for that car, as they are nice and light. Slap on a good dual-plane 4 barrel intake, a nice edelbrock 600ish cfm carb, mild cam, mild head work, headers and full exhaust, and it would be a nice little rocket, and decent on gas for a carbed 8 cyl.

Next, rebuild the rear with some gears, and a Detroit Locker, maybe a higher stall torque converter on the tranny, and you're really flying, and still not spending a whole lot of money (relatively speaking).

If you learned to do the work yourself, it wouldn't really be that costly at all (again, relatively speaking, of course).

Yeap, my 2001 Durango I used to have had the 5.9, it was a beast. I'd go with a 318, but meh, why do that to save gas milage when you could get better gas milage with a fuelie 360? You can get them out of wrecked trucks for really cheap around here. My bro has a 73 Challenger that had a 318, and he put a 360 stroker in it, and its a completely different car. Plus, the late models put out way more HP than the old carb'd ones. And Im not much of a carb expert, but from my (actually my bro's) experience edelbrock = bleah. May have just been the specific one he had tho. I dont *really* know all that much about cars, but my dad was a mechanic for years, built street muscle cars back when they were new, so he just kinda teaches me as we go along. I'll be doing all the engine swapping myself (with his guidance). But niether of us know the first thing about paint / bodywork, so thats the first order. ETA for being finished, more or less (read: looks good and drivable) about 3 months. Just in time for it to get cold when I cant ride my gixxer to work, so thats good, lol.

Edelbrock makes great carbs for the street. They are incredibly reliable and easy to tune. Much less finicky than a Holley. I actually prefer Barry Grant carbs, personally.

But hey, if you want to go with a fuelly 360, by all means, do it. Just be warned, wiring can very well end up a royal PITA. Another thing you may have to consider is that some states require you to also update all emissions equipment to the factory emissions required for the model year of your donor car. Including any in-tank emissions equipment, and things not necessarily attached to the engine when you pull it. Check your local laws.

Well like I said, no clue really on carbs. Ive rebuilt bike carbs, but mikuni an edelbrock is not, lol. I just know when my bro switched to something else (i think holley maybe, but not sure) it was once again, a completely different car. The guy who did his body work said edelbrocks (or maybe just that one) were designed to look pretty, not make horsepower.

Yea... im dreading the wiring nightmare, but thats what I want, and I intend to get it, lol. Ever since I saw a story in mopar muscle about a charger with a viper V-10, electric windows locks alarms, etc, electric sunroof... pretty much everything new in an old car... Ive been obsessed with that vision lol.

Oh and psh... i'm in arkansas... we shit all over emissions laws... the ONLY thing you can get a ticket for here is having no muffler whatsoever, and thats more because its annoying to listen to than what anyone cares about smog and such. People still do it anyway, and ive never seen anyone get in trouble for it... jacked up trucks with straight headers are pretty much the norm where I live... damn hillbillies....

I'd love to drop an entire '03 Cobra drivetrain into a 67 Stang fastback.

Well, as I said I dont have pics of my actual car cause its sitting at my dad's house about a hundred miles away, but heres a pic of pretty much what it looks like, minus hood scoop, plus some small dents, plus black top. Same rims actually too, lol.

Aaand heres what it will look like when done more or less, minus the awesome grill / headlight assembly, plus black top, plus chrome bumpers, not black. And keep the neon.

Im assuming you're talking about the rims, TBH I dont really know, they were on the car when I got it, and dont have the beauty caps, so they could be knockoffs / lookalikes of whatever, but I really dont have any clue.

Classic muscle FTW! Going to get a 1979 Firebird in a few years, or a '69 Charger (going to talk my uncle into selling me his charger in a few years)

Nothing says BADASS like a Olds 455 rocket V8, or a 440 Six Pack :D

My state would be prime for a classic muscle car - no emissions testing and very lenient traffic noise laws that are rarely EVER enforced.
