Are you sitting down?

The Los Angeles Angels shocked the baseball world Thursday morning, reaching an agreement with free-agent first baseman Albert Pujols on a 10-year contract that will be worth between $250 million and $260 million, according to a major league source.

And the Angels might not be finished yet.

They remain the front-runner to sign free-agent left-hander C.J. Wilson, who is "more likely than not" to reach a five-year deal with Los Angeles, another source said.

The Cardinals and a third, unspecified club also bid for Pujols. The Angels did not enter the sweepstakes until late Tuesday night. Approximately 36 hours later, they signed one of the great hitters in major league history.

Pujols, 31, will receive a full no-trade clause — something the Miami Marlins did not offer before their pursuit of him ended on Wednesday. His contract likely will be the second-highest in major league history, behind Alex Rodriguez’s 10-year, $275 million deal.

I have to say I am not very surprised despite the outrage I amusingly read in the comments area. What do people expect? Club loyalty means nothing, its all about the money. I understand the Cardinals were about $25 million short of the Angels deal, makes all the difference.

Fuck that. No way I'd sign a 10 year contract without the right to renegotiate every couple of years.

Pujols got a no-trade clause as well, sweet deal for him, especially at his age. Though I do see him as more long lasting than that dud A-Rod.
