I can't decide what to get. For the Focus, I'd have to take out a $6000-7000 loan but for the used Milan/Fusion, I wouldn't.

In either case, I would trade a 1992 Cadillac STS (~$2000) in for it which does qualify for Cash for Clunkers ($4500) but only against a new vehicle.

Both have similar features such as heated leather seats, excellent gas mileage (24/34, 18/27), and under 30k miles (new would obviously be less). The focus has a 2.0L I4 while the Fusion/Milan have a 3.0L V6.

FYI: I only have GM, Chrysler, and Ford dealers close. I don't trust companies that have filed bankruptcy and the nearest import (Honda, Toyota, etc.) service center is 40+ miles away.

Will be keeping this new car for probably at least 10 years.

I would go with the Fusion/Milan, they are nice cars, and Duratec parts are abundant.

Honestly, I'd go for the Focus. Only because first year cars from Ford tend to have issues. It's like year one is still in beta for them. lol. This has been true for every first year ford in my family (and we are a ford family. Don't like GM, and absolutely despise Chrysler). Off the top of my head, we've had a first year Contour, Focus, Fusion and Edge (and I'm forgettinga few here). All of them had problems. Covered under warranty at the time, but still a PITA to deal with.

Well, I'm thinking it will most likely be a 2006 Ford Fusion or Mercury Milan. The higher insurance premiums, rapid depreciation, and PITA-factor of new cars just isn't worth it.

Here's the Fusion:

Probably won't be making a decision until late this week/next week. I hope they don't sell before then. :(
