Im a graveyard shift dispatcher for a large trucking company. I tell truckers what to do, and make sure they deliver stuff on time and fix thier shit when something goes wrong.

But since my job is reactive and not proactive (i.e I have to wait for someone to call me before I can help them) and nothing really terribly aweful happens at 3 in the morning since most of the truckers are asleep...

... most of the time i just browse tpu and play computer games and xbox.

... I love my job.

Not really, half the rooms have metal-beams to reinforce the ceiling. 75% of it is not air-conditioned. At any given day, at least 10,000 people cross the gates (it's a crowded place). But I don't have any complaints. The staff is redundant, so I don't spend much time there. The college hospital is a nice place. I don't miss any chances to go there.

I work as Precision GPS sales and support, and IT department, and general whatever. They pay well, gave me a cell ( a horrible POS, but still) a company car ( a horrible Ford Exploder, but its loaded) and leave me alone pretty much unless shit goes wrong, that happens occasionally.

So I get to surf the new a bit at work, check my e-mails, ban websites, answer stupid questions, setup/change e-mail and whatever.

I still am trying to rally support for allowing me to use IT funds to buy me a nice coffee maker for my office. Don't know if it will happen, but it gives me something to do.

I've been trying this at work for the past few months. No one seems to care if they have coffee or not. I've now taken the stance that these employees are zombies and their vote just doesn't matter for a coffee maker. Tomorrow I take a company check to the store and buy one.

i spend the rest of my time finishing my A.S. degree in pc support and administration. it's my last semester, weeeeeeee! After that I want to either transfer to 4 year university to get BS degree, but my lack of funds might press me to start searching for a job in IT instead. I really don't want to take a loan and i spend too much time in college already.

We have a crappy urn style, it comes out hot as fuck, and they insist on making water coffee. It doesn't ahve enough flavor to be called coffee, not enough caffiene to wake me up, so god forbind they need me to work in the morning, and when I make it they all cry.

So for now I just get coffee at safeway when I fill up the exploder, and it has been getting alot of partial fills.;)

I might take my Bunn into work and get another, but dammit, its the principal of the issue.

When I worked at the AE warehouse, the other people in shipping with me made slightly coffee flavored water. It got to the point that I had to show up a 1/2 hour early to brew it before they could, just to get a proper pot. Just before I quit, I bought a giant carafe that holds an entire pot of coffee, and just brought my own, so I didn't have to show up early anymore.

If they were unsure then you could have asked more.

You need to understand if you arent makign 50K+ per year between the two of you or have plans to shortly, then the fun times will end when others stop taking you on a joy ride and start expecting you to grow up and provide for yourself, or when they decide they want to get away.

You need to either prepare for a life of scrimping and saving, and get used to the idea that it isn't as fun as you imagine, or get going with busting your ass and learning the medium of work playing around is only OK as long as your expectations are low. Work hard, get paid, have fun.

Do you have a car, pay for your own insurance, car payments, fuel, food, home, etc....

I really hope that you are as mature and easy going as you let on, however my experiance in life leads me to believe you are simly nieve as to what life is going to bring.

dude i wasnt gonna ask more bc it was my family
and even if they werent i wouldnt feel right scamming people i have morals
and yes i know thats no way to run a business but i wasnt planning on it being permanent

i can pay for my insurance and storage building payment and have money to spend pp takes care of the phone bill and building material for the house
and we both pay for gas and food

we have enough money for everything just with our jobs and im making min wage.

i am mature i do realize i have to safe up money im not an idiot.
We are going to have two savings accounts set up one for pc parts and the other for future plans we might have: wedding, furniture, appliances ect

We dont have others supporting us really ya his dad has built the house and they let us use there bathroom shower and all that but we will be having our own soon. No one is driving us around bc i do have a car fully paid off that i paid straight cash for at a dealership with no credit I didnt need anyones help to do that
I got a job with no ones help

We know what we're doing sure for a while we were both down eachothers throat bc we were in a tent for 3 months but you thats normal we had normal fights that couples have when they live together for awhile
but now that were in the house we are alot happier
and soon pp will be able to go part time for a while i can work full time so he can get a fucking break and you know we will still be able to pay everything off and have money to blow on random pc parts or random car audio equipment and continue our house building

It is just best to realise now that things are not always going to be easy, and life has a way of throwing things at you. Its none of my business, but since you two are obviously having a sexual relationship you must realise that you can become pregant, my daughter cost almost 300,000. After insurance we stil hurt from it, and she was planned. I'm sure I probably sound like your parents, and or relatives.

Just be careful of what you do, what you expect and want. You will change and he will too, unless you communicate freely and keep it real by pushing the issues that lurk out into the open, you will drift apart. Voice your concerns and expect them to be heard and considered.

we both keep an honest and open relationship and communicate freely i talk way too much lol
but we have no issue with our communication just me not paying attention which i am working on that this whole experience for us is only bring us closer together not further apart

and yes i know i wil change and all that but im determined and so is he so we will get what we need what we want and be happy im not saying itll be easy but we will make it i know if we dont it just wasnt meant to be

I think what you need to realize is a few things im about to point out since obviously you dont have your facts straight about our current situation, and you havent seen the thread that caused a big ruckus on TPU.

First things first,
We arent riding on anybodies shirt tails.
When we came here as a "plan b" to what had failed because of her ridiculous family my family offerd everything. We didnt ask for a thing. They sat us down at an Ihop and we discussed future living situations. Little did we know, we would be living in a tent for 3 months +. The only thing my parents provide now is a place to shower and shit (Well she has to piss in there too).

Since thats taken care of, we have absolutely NO PAYMENTS. When my parents bought this land 10 years ago they intended to give it to me and my sister with no obligations. Well im now 21 and shes 31 and i decided to leap on building on the land first. Which means, build my own house, own it, dont have a land nor house payment.

We outright bought our car with cash. No car payments. Insurance is 128 a month....whoopty-doo. We have a phone bill, pay for our own food, put gas in our car, and thats practically all we have to do with our money. I put money into the house still but since we moved into it ive slowed down because its quite comfy in here the way it is.

Our future? Well we have plans for that too, actually, have a savings account ect. People think we jumped into this blindly but no, afraid not. Im not exactly that stupid. College? Yea, its planned in the future as well. See, this thing with having no payments on absolutely anything means that little savings account will grow and grow and we can use it for college, our big wedding, whatever. Hell right now i was able to afford to buy System Vipers 280 without even worrying about bills. Can you do that?
The logical answer would be no, after the post you just put.

The common house hold has an extreme amount of payments on top of bills ontop of most having kids. Well, yes we have a sexualy active relationship (not that its your business or anything, but i have nothing to hide) and we take the necessary precautions so she dosent get pregnant. Such as, not having sex as much as your normal younger people.
Minimum wage? Her maybe, me hardly. Even with Obama increasing the minimum ive been making over the minimum for over a year now. I work 50+ hours and make enough to do things that make my parents spin their heads. So this situation of ours isnt exactly in the worst if you know what i mean. Lets just put it this way, we can afford to pay for a 2 story brick house on 2 acres of land, afford to pay all the bills, feed ourselves, and still have some left over with the way i work. Because thats how i roll.

So as you can see, we havent just jumped into this blindly. The tent part was extremely hard as it would be for anybody. I dont care who you are, that kind of living will test your relationship to the max and we made it and now we are much happier even living in our 8x16 "cabin". The fact of the matter though is we are happy.

These "fun" times you keep refering to are far from fun. Most people dont realize that this place is a work in progress. As i mentioned before we can easily take the easy way out and be in a nice big fancy home but wont have enough cash to really be "happy" even if i got a full blown IT job. I have a problem with being in debt and dont like having payments on anything. Well, i executed a perfect plan and will have just that for the rest of my life. Absolutely no debt in the necessary materials of life. (Unless this economy puts me out of a job and i cant afford food.....lets not go there though)

I dont see why it is so hard for people to realize the full extent of the situation. Yea so we dont have a major big house or office jobs...yet...but the point is we are working on the things we think are important. 2 story brick house and being in the hole for over 30 years isnt important to me. Having a cozy place to stay in next to the people i love and having money at the end of my check book IS important to me. End story though, is me and her are happy right now. Whether or not we have the things most nuclear famlies require is a different story because they arent a necessity to our living. Being happy is and thats all that should matter.

It is just best to realise now that things are not always going to be easy, and life has a way of throwing things at you.
The past 3 months for us is a perfect example of how life can through absolutely everything at you, yet we are still going. Im pretty sure we can take anything if we can do what we just did together.
If you dont have a full grasp on what exactly we have been through then i suggest reading the "So you know" thread on the GN part of TPU.

Are you saying meow to me?

Chill man, I was just showing some precaution. Could I buy something, yep. I did today. It was fun.

I'm glad you are doing things the right way, and paying as you go, so many today are relying on tomorrows money to live on. I too am working on a house, bought my mother in laws home she rented it for awhile, it is a older house with hardwood floors and a full basement. Had no insulation, old windows, a old crap furnace, dead trees, a wrecked fence, and no grass, poor drainage, etc...... ever seen "the money pit" ?

I blew in insulation, spent over $200 on 2" hole saws to get through the lath and plaster, have all new windows and exterior doors....spent over 12,000 on it in the first two years, not including all the tools I already owned and others I bought.

So yeah, take it easy? Some days.

Two kids, house paymets, car payments, life, home, car, health insurance, utilities...it all adds up.

Sure it may add up but the only utility we have to pay for is electric. No kids, house payment, car payment, *health insurance is coming*, ect. It dosent really add up for us lol.

I would chill, but it seems that nobody wants to see the bigger picture of what were doing. I took your list and dropped it 3/4 and the rest is our spending money. How is that not good? As like my computer, im doing things a piece at a time now since were in the house. Wont be quite so costly because were not doing it like a traditional home. Itll have walls, siding, roof, drywall, insulation, proper electrical, LED lighting, ect but it wont be setup like a real home.

Now what i cant wait for is our own shower and shitter =D

Edit: Kids are in our future list though, dont get me wrong. But we wanna bring life into a stable and very liveable house. We are trying to avoid screaming things until then like the plaque.

I used to live in a apartment where rent was $450 a month, it had a gas fireplace, 1,100 sq ft, and the rest of the renters were old people who coun't hear. It was awsome, rent and electric only. Went out and partied more than ever, and well, had alot of other fun. Then I got into computers heavy, and then ment my current wife after a few failed relatioships with stuck up "B's" had alot of fun, and knocked her up.

Kids change alot.

Still ahve my compys, four cars, a big house, go places and spend too much money sometimes. But I have fun, I wasn't implying that you weren't or that you coudn't. Just be prepared for changes. I didn't think I would have a house this size, two kids, married, or alot of other things that I have now, but with some really hard work and determination.......

And the hardest thing I have ever done is to watch my daughter in NICU and have to cart my wife around as she just had a C-section 12 hous before and she is on two painkillers to be able to go and see our daughter. Have the flight for life out on another call and force us to wait for a ambulance and infant specialty transport team and much else.

I would hate to go through that. It would be like torture for me.
