Still not anywhere near the top (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy). Which for a country as wealthy as US is is pretty much inexcusable. Although I think many other factors play into this as well besides healthcare (way too much crime, much more violent crime, very unhealthy eating habits, bad work/life balance for majority, ect.)
Interestingly though, many of those well above US have national healthcare plans, including No.3 Japan. No no I'm sure it's terrible they just have more pixie dust over there (which is also evil like the government).

More to do with their healthier eating I believe. Anyway these statistics don't mean much if you die at 50. It's just a general trend within the population.

We are also one of the most over-indulgent societies in the world (as seen in the obesity figures). We die younger but that doesn't mean we didn't die happier...
Japan has very strict rules against obesity (weight tax and mandated exercise periods at work) and most of the population practices various forms of martial arts (Judo, if memory serves) for exercise. Their diet mostly consists of rice and chicken (both have little fat and are deemed healthier than beef/bread which the USA consumes in abundance). In regards to health, they're almost as bad as a police state. That's great if all you care about is a number--not great for being in charge of your own life.
The black male figure being so low is where we need to work. Curbing minority violence should be among the highest social priorities.

It's an average (sum/number)...... In other words yes there are always outliers but the general population moves towards the middle.

I don't know if I'd say indulgence of the American kind begets happiness. Although that depends on too many factors to discuss here, needless to say I'm just assuming that was an off-kilter remark.
And as for your take on Japan, unless you've lived there for an extended period of time I'm just going to assume you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Nationalism and what I was talking about earlier in another thread w/ confirmation bias (seeing what you wanna see, disregard info that doesn't fit w/ your view, assimilating what does) are influencing us constantly. Or maybe you can just explain away the other 34 countries that come in higher than the US? No no I'm sure the US is the best.....
I agree though, poor black males are in serious trouble in our country. Maybe we should give them healthcare. :D

Umm, that isn't the way it is in Japan.
First off, their primary food intake is seafood and rice.
As far as their exercise habits, none of it is mandatory. A job may make a stretch or warm up period mandatory, but not most of them, and it is not govt controlled. It's just taught and pushed on them from a young age that exercise is good. There is a very large focus on school clubs in their upbringing. Most of these clubs are based around some sort of sport, thus a lot of exercise. Those that don't partake in these activities are looked upon as lazy by their society as a whole. That has to do with their culture, and not the govt.

I'm no expert on Japanese culture but there is major differences in lifestyle. Most Americans wouldn't want the same lifestyle even if that does mean a few extra years of life.

I disagree, I think most American kids dream of a world full of Ninjas and killer robots.

LMAO! I assure you, that's not the case. XD

Gang violence, drug abuse, and suicide most likely. A lot of blacks grow up without their father which serves to continue the trend.
There may be some biological differences too but that plays an insignificant role to what is listed above.

If you consider Colin Powell (http://www.diverseeducation.com/artman/publish/article_4404.shtml) and Bill Cosby (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/entertainment/july-dec04/cosby_7-15.html) racist, probably. I just paraphrased there. Don't shoot the messenger. ;)

Also heart problems are more common in Black males than in white if I recall correctly. But yes Ford is 100% right... there is no other way of saying it.

Pointing out factual trends (large portions of jail population and poor population are black males) isn't racist or stereotypical. Assuming someone has certain qualities without having any reason to believe so other than trends (assuming a black man on the street is a criminal) is being racist or stereotypical.

Read up on the Dutch East India Company, if racism was an Olympic sport we'd win gold every year.
