some HBO international guy released the episode a week early is what I understand, HBO home office here in America was pissed. going to completely fuck with their ratings so we shouldn't be seeing that again. of course it means I have to wait an extra week for Episode 3 though.... *sigh*

yeah... the action slows down... have to condense or change things around for the viewers or they'll be disappointed after the crazy shit in Book 3 but maybe they'll pull it off with a mostly faithful adaptation that stays interesting to viewers

I'm about a quarter of the way through A Dance with Dragons. I don't know why it's got such bad reader reviews. I'm liking it thus far.
If the show gets to that point in the novels, I imagine they'll combine the books and split the story chronologically and not split the narrative like GRRM did in the novels. I wouldn't bitch about that at all. But then I wouldn't bitch about presenting it as GRRM did either, since I already know what's up. Last edited by DannibusX; 04-11-2012 at 08:53 PM. |

oh yeah, they'll definately combine the two books, not going to cut out half of the actors for a whole season. Besides, given all the travel and description of cultures in other cities outside Westeros I think they could do most of the two books in one season. I'm guessing:
Season 3: 2/3 of Storm of Swords Season 4: rest of Storm of Swords then ~1/2 Feast/Dragons Season 5: second half of Feast/Dragons Depending on how long GRRM makes his final two books perhaps we can give them seasons 6 and 7 respectably. Assuming GoT lasts that long and assuming GRRM finishes his books heh

Episode 3's interesting. I love it how Tyrion makes use of his position as Hand and the events at the end are well done too. I am not sure though, whether Arya's improvised "trick" will work out as intended (whether or not they will be held captive or will be released).

Just watched ep 3, and looks like I'm watching someone play Crusader Kings II very badly, and all the other factions are playing very badly as well. LOL
Looks like the "winner" would be "the one who made the least number of mistakes" or "the one who made the least damaging mistakes" LOL

That is mainly how the Game is played. You seem to mind it more than I do, but I have been reading Robin Hobb's books (with folks playing games too) which might have altered my view on the matter.

People in general are pretty stupid, i recall some general saying that the last commander that makes a mistake wins. Sums it up well.
Episode 3 is best yet, overall an A+ especially our introduction to Brienne. My only complain is that annoying bitch Shae... now teamed up with my other slightly lesser hatred known as Sansa. Seen it twice now, thinking about going for number 3

It was a good episode for sure. Brienne is great. I'm so happy they cut a huge chunk of wasted story out for the show, specifically what would have been Arya's flight. It isn't needed and the end of the episode summed it all up nicely. I imagined a larger pile of corpses around the recruiter when reading the book though.
I have a feeling that this weeks' episode will be epic in every way. Also, just over halfway through A Dance with Dragons. Great book. |

I liked it how Tyrion uncovered who was whispering into the Queen's ear, and the scenes with the Night's Watch recruits were done well too. I always found Yoren a sympathetic character, and quite enjoyed the dialogue between him and Arya (the way he tries to "comfort" her is rather interesting, and it is one of miss Williams's best performances so far IMHO). It's a bummer that Yoren had to "pass" as well. On the other hand, reaching the Wall unscathed was an unrealistic goal, perhaps, for him and his group.

When watching this show it is best to keep one thing in mind, if things seem to be going well for a character... their shit is about to get fucked up

From the previews the episode tomorrow will start picking up in the intensity. I've heard some complaints on winteriscoming.net that there are non book-readers complaining that nothing is really happening, hopefully this will shut them up.

I am a non-book reader (well I am a reader of books generally, but not yet a reader of ASoIaF) and TBH I think that enough is happening. Additionally, good fantasy stories are not like an action movie IMHO, but contain decent amounts of dialogues as well.

I certainly agree though there are always those brain dead Americans who won't be able to get through a program unless there is an explosion every five minutes or so.

I'm an action/adventure whore as much as the next guy, but what I really like is an intricate well-woven tale. Force me to concentrate on the story line and not allow me to go surfing while only half paying attention and I'll call your story well written.

Magic has a small place in this series but it isn't constantly in your face in a Harry Potter kind of way. Remember the opening scene of the show? White Walkers and zombies? It isn't as if magic doesn't happen at all. Besides, the birth of the shadow baby is one of the scenes I've been waiting for and the CGI was quite impressive with it. Worried they might wimp out with budget concerns like when they skip the battles but they showed it to amazing effect.
My only complaint in this episode is that having only a 10-ep series becomes a problem when moving from scene to scene. Like Stannis suddenly showing up in front of Renly, there was no interconnecting scene of him moving from Dragonstone to there. As a book reader I have no issue with this but for those who aren't it may be quite confusing.
