I vaguely remember that conversation, but I was paying as close attention back then. I probably need to rewatch that episode - you don't happen to know the epi #?

I was going to add my 2 cents in here but seems Dannibus has spelled things out neatly. There are potential allies in Westeros but haven't been revealed in tv series. The Dany storyline evolves very slowly though fyi, hope that's not considered spoilery but... yeah don't expect anything from her for awhile.

Just trying to keep things as spoiler free as possible. I ruined many surprises in the novels by looking up characters on wikipedia.

It's the reason I'm intentionally vague when I talk about episodes that just air.

I'm adopting a 2 week rule. If you haven't watched the episode after 2 weeks, I'm not going to worry about it. Come back to the thread when you're ready to watch the series.

Pretty much.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a pretty awesome story. What's even more intriguing is the amount of backstory contained in the series that rarely gets talked about. The Targaryan invasion and the conquering of the 7 Kingdoms and Roberts Rebellion. Sure those are talked about a bit, but you really have to do your research to find out what happened that leads up to the main story arc.

GRRM wrote some short stories that became graphic novels called The Hedge Knight. It's a pretty good story, if I remember right. It's been a long time since I read them, but it takes place before The Mad King was even born. The tales of Dunk and Egg, or Ser Duncan the Tall.

The Season One blurays have a lot of stuff on the backstory of Roberts Rebellion, all told by the actors that portray major parts in the first season. King Robert I talks about motivations and specific battles, Tywin Lannister talks about his part in the rebellion and the overthrowing of the Targaryn regime. It's really good stuff.

I sometimes find it difficult not to mention anything that hasn't taken place past the series, I love these books and I get enthusiastic in talking about them. Sometimes I wonder if its alright even to talk about the differences between book and show (that has already aired of course) but I tell myself its all good.

After I tore through A Dance with Dragons, I can't wait to see what happens next. GRRM already stated he's not splitting the narrative again, so it should be all good. I'm especially interested after the last couple of chapters and the epilogue.

Too bad it'll be another couple of years.

He has a few chapters out already but I'm restraining myself from reading them heh

I am so impatient to know what happened to a certain pair of characters...

You mean other books? Could always strike up a new thread. Its A Song of Ice and Fire that really gets my heart pumping. To a lesser extent the Honorverse, Wheel of Time, Emberverse and Star Wars can get me chatty as well.

I've been reading the wheel of time since it was first published. I, only realized last week that my copy of eye of the world is still the original I got in 1990 or whenever it was published.

You ever read Joe Abercrombie's novels? They're good

tbh, I have been re-reading the same series over and over, not wanting to go to anything new. I suppose I should try Abercrombie or Terry Goodkind like Chevalr1c suggested but I worry I won't like them and will waste my time. I KNOW I like the above series and unlike some people I've talked to, I don't mind reading a book I've read before a dozen more times if I like it enough. Some read a book or watch a movie once and even if they liked it will never see/read it again. Never understood this.

I'm like that. I guess it depends on what you appreciate. If you really like the nuances of something, I can see going back to it over and over. Each time you will be in a different frame of mind and take something new away from it.

As soon as I see something that triggers a memory, the entire plot flashes through my mind and i feel like I'm just standing there with my limp dick in my hand.

I hate Goodkind.

Abercrombies novels are great though, read the First Law Trilogy, I think you'll dig them.

Through Knife of Dreams I reread the entire WoT series whenever a new novel was going to be published. I read Eye of the World itself at least 10 times.

Joe Abercrombie is relatively new, but his books are just awesome. So is Patrick Rothfuss and his Kingkiller Chronicles. I'm trying to get into the Mazalan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson, but I'm finding it hard to get into.

I'm with you though, I tend to reread stuff I really like.

For such kind of books I really just restrict myself to Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms novels.

All I can say about last nights episode:

Worst Episode Ever

I like to think I'm not a complete book purist but the changes in this episode just made me want to grit my teeth through the whole pile of dren

I agree. There were several changes that made me cringe. Aside from the characters themselves there was little from the novel itself in last nights episode.

As a non-book reader I thought the episode was pretty solid. Really enjoyed the Tywin/Arya interaction and the Tyrion punch to the face was awesome. If you don't mind me asking, who is Robb 'promised' to? I'd rather him go after that smexy nurse than any princess, except for Margaery Tyrell of course. She's a stone cold fox.

Yeah... about the only scene I did like was the riot at King's Landing. Seeing the Hound in action is always great along with Tyrion punching Joffery lol.

In Season 1 Robb and Arya Stark were promised to marry Freys as payment for letting them pass through the Crossing and to get them to join Robb's cause.
