Few pics from the David Guetta gig on Friday. I was a little further back than I was at the Swedish House Mafia gig last month and it was very cloudy so slower shutter speeds and higher ISO all around

Question though.

Why do you take pictures during shows?

Everyone else is going to have the same generic cell phone pictures that are aimed towards the front of the stage.

It kinda just takes you out of the moment.

I usually don't take out my camera unless I think there is some unique perspective I can capture which is rarely ever.
Also being worried about camera getting damaged instead of being focused on the world around.

The same reason I take pictures of anything else I go to, it's nice to have a picture to go along with my memory of it. I also like to share them on Facebook and Twitter through Instagram and they're also on my slideshow screensaver too.

First of all phone cameras suck. The software on most phones is limited and favours lower ISO over faster shutter speeds which would have resulted in motion blur. My camera has much quicker autofocus, a wider lens allowing for taking pictures of my friends in front of me, a 12x optical zoom allowing for close ups with up to 20x zoom at 5MP. Cropping phone pictures would zoom about 2x/3x and at that quality is pointless. There's also no burst mode, high sensitivity mode or control over shutter speed. There's also a delay so I'd have missed the moment I wanted.

My camera also has an optical image stabiliser, the digital stabilisation doesn't seem to do anything on the phone. The camera also has a wrist strap so I won't lose it, I almost lost my phone last month because there's no grip or strap on it. The camera also doesn't get horribly distorted when recording the videos, a lot of people have praised that on YouTube which is also handy for the 115,000 views my videos got last month.

As far as other people's pictures are concerned, they're pretty much all on phones or cheap cameras and most people don't know how to take decent pictures. There also wouldn't be any pictures of my friends and I in them. Not that I'd see them anyway.

I doesn't take a lot of effort to take pictures and it was a 7 hour gig so when it was dark and David Guetta came on I was tired so was just enjoying the show and naturally had my camera ready.

I usually bring nothing but a large frozen water bottle to raves.

Was a spotter once and did not enjoy it. Being stuck carrying around a bunch of expensive shit is no fun.
Definately bringing camera if I go to see GWAR in november though.

People that have their point and shit flashes going off at events really rustle my jimmies.

EDIT: and since this is a recent photo thread I'll include a photo instead of just ranting.

Autofocus was set on the background and not the foreground

I keep my flash off when I take pics at shows. I usually take some pics/vid during the first song or two of a set and then put it away and just enjoy the rest of the set. Also, having the camera with me is nice for when I catch a musician being cool and talking to fans, so I can get a pic with them.

Our star through one side of some certified solar viewing glasses. I might try again later this evening when it's lower on the horizon, using a longer lens and tripod. I also need to know if this will fuck up the sensor if done too many times.
