Model flying

So two weeks (ish) ago, I finally bought me some remote controlled action. I always wanted an RC helicopter, never found the impusle to buy one, until my girlfriend seemed to have enough of it and literally forced me to buy one. It was a T-Rex 100.

Now, after getting somewhat used to it, buying several spare parts after the helicopter ruthlessly attacked my only houseplant several times (as well as the walls, ceiling, and generally everything), I gave in and bought a Simulator for the PC. Along with a more gentle koax heli, a rebranded Syma S107G I think

Aaand because I'm like that, I also ordered an eflite Blade mCPx V2, along with a Spektrum dx6i transmitter and the Phoenix Simulator (because the RealFlight I bought before wasn't really satisfying).

Now, Koaxial Helicopters are fun and all, but they're pretty limited in axis. Also, flying outside is only possible if there's absolutely no wind and no light (because of IR transmitting).

The T-Rex is very cool, somewhat jittery in behavior, but still, after swapping a couple of parts and understanding it, pretty flyable. But it being a fixed pitch helicopter (meaning gaining and losing height is done by rotor rpm), it still wasn't enough for my greed.

So the Blade. A flybarless (no paddel thingy stabilizing it), collective pitch (the angle of the blades determines the pitch, so it can produce negative pitch, meaning flying upside down is possible) 3D capable helicopter. Now THAT thing is something else. And hard to control. But so much fun!

Enough of me. Who's also into model flying? Be it helicopters of planes, scale or hardcore 3d, share your flying minions and discuss!

Here's a shot of my legion:

And because heli flying is awesome, here's a video of me (actually not me) flying some intense shit

You're in trouble now! The Blade/DX6i is the nicest IMO, shortly you'll be full LiPO and into 500/600 sizes lol

Yeah the Blade is something else!
Heh a 500/600 size would be nice surely, but I think I'll train with the Blade for a while

Soooo... nobody else flying, then?

Here's my current fleet:

Smallest to largest:

- Reely Koax (basically a Syma S107G knockoff)
- T-Rex 100S (converted to X)
- Blade mCPX
- Robbe Blue Arrow CP
- Helicox D9025 (also known as Xiong Xing D9025 and ACME Zoopa 350)
- Blade 300X
- Blade 450 3D

Since I made this thread, I made some considerable progress in flying (thanks to countless hours on the simulator*). Stable hover, stable nose-in hover, basic cruising, Half-Turns, and even loopings.

I mainly fly the 300X, bad weather prevents me from testing out the 450 3D.

In June, there's the largest Heli Meeting in Europe, held at Dubendorf Airbase in Switzerland. I happen to work there So I'll be going. Anyone of you US guys going to IRCHA?

* Phoenix turned out not to be satisfying despite what I wrote in my initial post. Its pretty alright, but the physics are nowhere near real life. RealFlight, especially after the 6.5 update, proved to be far more advanced in the physics department. I mainly flew in Phoenix due to the fact that they had my Blade helis, but they react so much differently in the SIM than in real life, sometimes being downright unflyable. A good friend at work got into helis, too, I'll be giving him the Phoenix.

Carried away? Nonsense; you're just being thorough!

I bout a Syma a couple years ago and after getting decent at flying it I took it out and wanted to see how fast it really was, over the house at about 25ft of altitude and it took off like a shot and then promptly ran into my apricot tree where I couldn't get to it and was unable to do anything but knock it out, which broke the outer drive shaft and its carbon fiber so superglue didn't hold and I pulled the extra parts off it and stored them and junked it.

I want another but need other things more.

Trust me, scantily clad (or not clad at all) models parachuting/posing in parachute gear isn't as sexy as it sounds. I had an "erotic parachute girls" calendar. It just looks silly.

I'm surprised you could even control it outside. Those little buggers do not like wind. Or planetary rotation for that matter.
