Reagonomics is "trickle-down economics".

The four "pillars" of Reaganomics:
1. Reduced spending.
2. Reduced taxes.
3. Reduced government regulations.
4. Tighter money supply to help stamp out inflation.

Obama increased spending annually with Obamacare. Obama increased taxes with Obamacare. Obama increased government regulations (FCC and EPA doing whatever the fuck they want as well as the largest regulations ever on private industry with Obamacare and Frank-Dodd). Money supply has never been looser; they've literally ran out of options except to print money.

Obama is the anti-Reagan. That's why Reagan was talked about so much in the GOP primaries in both 2008 and 2012.

'Reaganomics' is a failure. It's actually a point of study that comes up in formal schooling.

High government spending is the hallmark of a developed nation. Maintaining everything from high quality roads to safety regulations costs money.

To pay for those services (which work pretty well under government due to the economics of volume) you need to have taxes. Taxes also serve as a means to regulate the economy.

Government regulations (clean drinking water, safe food, various environmental factors, etc etc) are only bad for businesses that cause harm. Because regulations are for the most part a blanket over an entire industry it makes for a level playing field. Of course this becomes a more complex issue when you open things up to international trade. Are you really going to want to race down to sweat shop conditions to be competitive though?

You should really consider signing up for an economics program of some sort at a university. I'd love to hear the discussions you'd have with your professors.

Then explain why Reagan won 49 states in 1984. It worked great. The economy exploded out of a recession but, it also created a large deficit.

Historians believe that may have played a major role in ending the recession. Defense spending creates a lot of high tech jobs and exports (e.g. F-117 Nighthawk, HWMMV, Apaches, etc. were all funded/researched/constructed during Reagan years) all over the country.

Yup, which George H. W. Bush corrected in 1990 with raising taxes.

Ah, a trip in the ol' time machine. A time where pissed off ex cops weren't trolling the LAPD into shooting at women driving the same truck as him. A time before the school shooting in Connecticut. A magical time before all of the anti gun rhetoric. A blissful and peaceful time where there was no budget and the cliff was still approaching.

I'll forever remember this thread as the last of the good times.

I hope that the Rebublicans do not come up with someone like Romney or Santorum; and that the Dems do not come with someone who thinks he can fix everything with throwing around money, the next time that there are Federal Elections.

I just hope we don't get another idiot Texas governor running for president, Bush was enough. The next guy probably will want to cut a few federal departments and won't even be able to remember them all. Wouldn't that be embarrassing?
