How good are you at telling whether someone is faking a smile?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbo...urveys/smiles/

I got 15/20 correct.

There were some odd looking people on there o.O 15/20 here. It seemed like the genuine ones had a harder time coming off of the laugh.

I got all of them. 20/20

There were 2 or 3 that I just lucked out on, tho. Couldn't decide for sure, and went with my gut.

I was taught long ago how to read the eyes by a friend in majoring in some psych field or another. Ignore the mouth altogether, and focus on their eyes.

I think it has to do with the run up to the smile, and a slight blush after the smile. The mouth looks a little crooked/asymmetric during the blush.

18/20 I focused on the eyes and movement of the head.

If the eyes stay the same during the laugh, its fake. No wrinkles around eyes, fake. Few or no wrinkles around mouth, fake.

I got 16/20, some were hard to spot.

12/20 though I never said a fake smile was real. In fact to me since this is not a natural setting none can be real. I'm curious as to how they interpret it and what is shown to get them to smile.

oddly enough i said my outlook on life was semi optomisitc. I guess my outlook on people is not.
