I Wonder how fat he is?

Man eats 25,000th Big Mac

A retired prison guard in Wisconsin has eaten his 25,000th Big Mac, 39 years to the day after eating his first.

Don Gorske was honoured after reaching the meaty milestone during a ceremony at a McDonald's in his hometown of Fond du Lac.

Guinness World Records recognised Gorske's feat three years and 2,000 Big Macs ago, and the 59-year-old says he has no desire to stop.

The loyal McDonald's customer said: "I plan on eating Big Macs until I die."

The sign beneath the golden arches read "Congrats Don Gorske 25000 Big Macs."

Before he ate No. 25,000, he showed dozens of onlookers many of the different styles of cartons he has collected over the years and other Big Mac-related stories.

Before biting into the sandwich, he said, "It's been seven years since 20,000. Same thing goes this year folks. You can't have the carton and it still takes me 16 bites for me to finish a Big Mac."

The crowd erupted into applause.

I wonder though how he knows its been 25k burgers. Did he as a kid decide: I'm going to eat my first Big Mac and I shall keep record of every one of it!

And how did he prove it to the Guinnes people?

He ate 2000 in 3 years? That like 2 a day (coming from someone that can't stand McDonalds more than once a week).

Big Macs are just burgers. They aren't any more unhealthy than any other burger. Being fast food just gives it a bad stigma.

i agree , what makes things worse is the fries and the amount of salt they use
if i get a mc'ds delivered, i always have to brush the salt off as it often looks like someone emptied a shaker on it

best to ask for fries without it i ya ask me

Sort of. It's all in how you "dress" the burger. The cheese and "special sauce" accounts for over half of the total fat in a Big Mac. McDonald's cheese is particularly high in fat compared to the cheese most of us would put on a burger. I get a Big Mac once in awhile, but I order it with one slice of cheese, and ketchup and mustard only. No fat in those condiments.

Probably. He most likely has high cholesterol, high blood pressure etc. Almost impossible not to, if you've had an average of 2 Big Macs everyday over several years.

Special sauce is basically thousand island dressing.

And McDonalds cheese is not any worse in fat than what a typical person puts on their burger (aka: wrapped singles, aka: pure oil).

All in all, not any worse than a similarly built homemade burger with some thousand island and kraft singles.

Besides, when talking weight, caloric intake is more important than a minor difference in fat content.

My point is, just because it's fast food, doesn't make it worse for you. The ingredients are things that are easily used at home, and if made at home, it would hold more or less the same nutritional value.

Of course, if you build it just like McDonald's it will be similar. That's why I gave an example of a Big Mac ordered by me. Simply cuts the fat in half, between the dressing and cheese. People are just less likely to make good choices in a fast food restuarant, and I'm guessing by the looks of this guy he wasn't doing any special ordering for healthy eating.

I'm not sure you could consider going from 34g to 19g a "minor" difference in fat, especially if the pattern of eating is consistent through an average day.

Calories are no more important of a factor than anything else. It's all about what those calories are comprised of. If calories are comprised of mostly proteins, complex carbs and unsaturated fats, then you will be eating healthy. If it's mostly simple sugars, saturated fats you will not be, even if the calorie count is exactly the same. Obviously though, if a person is not active enough, even the "good" calories will contribute to weight gain.

When I was actively certified by ACE and ISSA, I worked with sports nutritionist who constantly preached about being weary of counting calories on their own, as if the composition was equal.

My initial comments where more about the weight aspect, as it was brought up that people where surprised he's not fat. A person's weight is determined by calories in vs calories out (which you obviously know). Healthy was a poorly chosen word on my part.

Besides, those amounts of fat are still well under daily recommended. So again, Big Macs are not that bad for you. Now, add fries and a soft drink, or eat more than one a day, and things get a whole hell of a lot worse, and that's where they get you.

But my point still stands, just because it's a fast food burger, it doesn't magically make it less healthy than doing it yourself. That seems to be an assumption everybody makes. A burger with x toppings is a burger with x toppings, no matter where you get it.
