Question for older ppl here

By older ppl I mean ppl who are 30-35 or older and were teenagers in the late 80's or 90's.
I non stop hear ppl saying how life was better 10-15 years ago and I'm curious if it's true or are ppl currently so unhappy with current situation in the world and are just saying random shit just because they want to compain about stuff and make everything seem shitty.

So if you compare life now to how life was 10-20 years ago, whould you say that life was better before or not?

Fuck no. I love shit and shit was way more expensive in the 80's. I think I paid like $15 for a Telefunken album of Bach organ music on virgin vinyl in the early 80's. And that's when you could get an 8 ball for . . . IDK, I never bought an 8 ball, but $15 was a lot of money.

I remember thinking that I could feed myself for about $300/month if I just ate subs and bought shit from the smelly deli. Fuck, I probably only spend about $400 now, barely look at the prices and have everything delivered. OK, I probably eat a lot less, but even so . . .

It was way easier to get a job 94-2000 that paid enough to live on...Taxes were higher but everything was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper...You could live on $8.50 an hour and have extra money....Vacations....companies used to have Company Picnics at places like Cedar Point and Benefits came with a job....

But after 2000 about 50% of manufacturing jobs moved over to China and the $'s value began it's downward spiral..

In the mid 90's, I made $8 an hour, and lived like a king in my apartment.

99 cent, but yeah, something like that. I vividly remember bitching to high heaven on break at work when premium hit the $2.12 mark. Now I want that back. lol.

I think it doesn't matter what time it is as much as it is how old you are. When you're in your late teens to late 20's you have less to worry about.

Hot bitches, fast cars, drugs.

don't really miss it, I get way more pussy now than I did back then. Layne Staley was still alive back then though so the world was indeed much more awesome than it is today

Sadly it is harder for young people today....Like when I was in my early 20's people that were graduating from college could actually expect to get a job within 6 months and now it's something like 85% of all College graduates have to go live back at home for more than a year (more likely 3) and usually have to settle for a job that can't even provide enough money to repay their loans..

Here's some perspective...
In 1994 minimum wage was $4.25 an hour...with one hour of work after taxes I could buy
1 Hersey Chocolate bars 1.75oz ($.33) a pack of Marlboro's ($1.15) and 1 gallon milk ($1.20) and 1 gallon of gas. ($.99)

Now at minimum wage $7.35 an hour you can buy a gallon of milk ($2.79) and a Gallon of gas ($3.65) after tax

the 90's were better imo for the quality of life. Back then in the SF bay area 2 people working got you a nice house 2 cars, vacations, all the bills paid and money in a savings account. 1 person working got you the same in AZ.

now 2 people working in SF bay area = 400 sqft studio apt, no cars, and no savings.

1 person working in AZ didn't get hit as hard but its a much smaller house, 1 car, and no savings. 2 people working in AZ in the 90's = live like a king, "the jones keep up with us!"
2 people working in AZ now = "yes we finally can open a savings account! Maybe in 2-5 years we can trade up one of our clunker cars for somethign better."

The old boy network is the way to go. One of my first jobs was with a law firm I got through an acquaintance who had turned down their offer. I looked him up a year or so ago and he's now the head legal counsel for some Fortune 500 company. I ended up getting fired because I was out on an interview and blew off a deposition. Hehehe.

It depends on which country you live in.
I remember in the '90s my family was 'richer' but only because stuff was cheaper. In those days my parents bought a brand new car for €2,800. Today the cheapest brand new car one can get isn't less than €10,000.

The cheapest version of the Chevrolet Spark is €10,600 here. The only car I know that is cheaper is the Suzuki Alto which is also around €10,000.

Reminds me of this clip:

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tu...the-real-thing

Was born in 1980 and remember it as a great era! Of course, I'm on the younger side of "older ppl" you're polling. Less perceivable problems and more happy time.

But was it better? Maybe, maybe not. I do know that I wouldn't want to trade my time with any one else. Going off my earliest memories ('86) through my teens ('00) along with hindsight today, it was a great time for gaming*, getting into computers, movies, music... everything

Had a part-time after school job from 90-97, and the parents paid me for work too, so always had cash on hand. For simple pleasures you could do a lot with a little.

*Speaking of gaming and time perspective, anyone else see Chasing Ghosts before?

http://www.hulu.com/watch/319596/cha...ond-the-arcade

Made in 2007, but I just recently saw it on Hulu. Somewhat interesting, though a bit sad.
