2012 Race to the White House

Married individuals are more likely to vote for Romney. Unmarried individuals are more likely to vote for Obama. It's about a 15% difference for both:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...ion/?hpt=hp_t2

That spread is wider than women vs. men.

its actually ironic when you think about it, Obama's family status puts him closer to the struggles of the average american family than Romney whose children have long been out of the house.

it was the same with McCain vs Obama in 2008.

It might have something to do with Republicans vs. Democrats and marriage:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/121571/ma...ification.aspx

Democrats are less likely to be religious. Marriage is a religious institution so, it probably has more to do with party affiliation than candidate running.

Ha, if you are "living with a domestic partner" you are very, very unlikely to be a Republican (12%).

Also, if you're non-white, married or not, you're not likely to be a Republican.

wow 34% independant, Now how come we can only get candidates from 2 parties when over a third of america (if the poll holds true) is independant?

I got married...I'm not religious...Marriage has Absofuckinlutely nothing to do with religion....Marriage or another form of it predates mans invention of a GOD...Ive been hearing that same argument or suggestion of what marriage is from Republicans for about a year now....Makes me wonder how many "Talking Points" they've had for so many to keep repeating that it's a "Religious" thing...

Marriage is a binding contract between 2 people that's registered with the state....no religion of any kind is required.

People are growing pessimistic about the two-party system, apparently.

People who are devotely religious believe that a marriage is not nullable. Once they enter a marriage, they are very unlikely to leave it until "death do us part." I'm not going to get into it anymore than that because it's very off-topic.

Like or not, there's a direct correlation there:

In Canada we have multiple parties, currently the majority government is run by the conservatives who got roughly that many votes. If you do get multiple parties I hope you can avoid the problems we have.

Why do people even pay attention to this stuff? It's not like any of your votes make a difference. The results are predetermined.

Oh really? Pray tell me, who is going to win the Presidential race? Who is going to be the majority leader in the Senate? Who will be the Speaker of the House? If the results are predetermined, you should be able to answer all those questions definitively.

Why should I be able to answer them? I'm not the one making those determinations. Ask the guys with the money.

Hehehe...

And now I shall! Romney gets booed while speaking at NAACP. Obama is not going to speak at the NAACP, Biden is going in his sted. According to the presidential schedule, Obama's day (yesterday, the day Romney spoke) was wide open except for a daily briefing.

Well they didn't poll me. Seems that I'm the complete opposite of their findings.

Married young (at City Hall) and care much more about social issues than the economy and health care.

They only interviewed >20,000 for each. That's actually a lot more than norm (usually about 1,000). You're simply in the minority.

Vp condi?

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

In recent days, she emailed supporters.

"2012 is perhaps a turning point for the United States," she warned.

"The upcoming elections loom as one of the most important in my lifetime. I'm very often asked to speak about our current foreign policy and the challenges that lie before us. However, we, as a country, are not going to be able to address any of those international challenges unless we first get our domestic house in order."

Unlike Obama, Condi is more than qualified to be President. If that's his pick, I applaud him for it.

I very much doubt that Romney will touch anything that was near the Bush Administration, last thing he needs is ties to Dubya to rouse the Democrat base. Besides, having a black on the ticket won't do him any more good than McCain had with women for Sarah Palin. Of course Condi Rice isn't a complete fucking moron but still... people aren't THAT shallow. Obama will keep the black vote and most of women probably, unmarried ones anyway.

Indeed, that's a huge strike against her. Then again, I think she would give a very firey retort if someone attacked her with a Dubya line.

And you're right about the African American vote. They tend to vote Democrat anyway so a Condi pick wouldn't sway that many votes.

And you're right about women voters. Married statistically go with Republicans and unmarried statistically go with Democrats. The decision may sway some votes but probably not enough to matter.

She is a do-no-harm VP pick though. She's likely to lose as many votes as she gains and doesn't really shore up any states. I think the bottom line is he won't pick her. I'd be shocked if he did.

I dunno where she stands on a lot of issues so...I wouldn't go that far, yet. I don't think much dirt has been dug up on her because she was always appointed rather than running. If she did become VP (all the dirt brought forward by the other side and survived), I wouldn't have any problem voting for her as president.
