Man's death leads to discovery of new virus in Kansas, CDC reports

    Suffered "several" tick bites, fell ill two days later, hospitalized on the third day, and died due to a heart attack on the 11th day.

    Symptoms: "fever, tiredness, rash, headache, other body aches, nausea and vomiting."

    Additionally: "low blood counts for cells that fight infection and help prevent bleeding."

    It is named the "Bourbon virus" for the county he lived in. The virus is related to the thogotoviruses.

    Most of the ticks around here are lethal if they are not removed quickly. As are most of our critters.
